Frequently Asked Questions:

Should I take caffeine gel at the beginning or end of training/competition?

Gel with caffeine should be taken continuously throughout the activity. We recommend 1-2 caffeine gels per hour, which gives a maintenance dose of caffeine equivalent to half a cup of coffee per hour, which means that you maintain the caffeine level in your body if you loaded up with caffeine via e.g. U INTEND before the start. A caffeine gel late into the session/competition can also have an extra invigorating effect at the end of a long race.

How many can I take per hour?

You can take up to 5 U GEL per hour, but it only really works when cycling. When running, the recommendation is 3-4 U GEL per hour if it is your only source of energy.

How quickly does U GEL provide energy?

A psychological/neurological invigorating effect takes place directly in the oral cavity, then it takes 5-10 minutes for the energy to pass through the stomach and reach the small intestine, where the uptake of carbohydrates for further transport into the bloodstream and muscles begins and we can begin to feel the effect.

Highly recommend Ugels for getting your PB!

I've struggled with nutrition for years -- either not being able to physically get enough down or becoming sick to my stomach. With these Ugels I was finally able to take more than 2 during a marathon (took 4), taking my 2:45 PB down to a 2:38! The cola, lemon, and raspberry taste great and you can take them in one shot (which is important for me during faster pace races).

    No more DNF!

revious years, I have had so many DNFs due to stomach issues. Most recently, in my last two races, HK100 and 9 Dragons 50 Miles, I’m really happy I finished both races using Umara gels. Although I still have stomach issues, these gels are the only ones I can stomach during sickness. A little sweeter than expected, although it is not overpowering. The gel is quite watery but not sticky and enters the body quite quickly.

Thank you Linna! Running ultras is so much more enjoyable when you can hold your nutrition in!

Remember to take in sufficient energy per hour to keep from depleting your carb stores. We suggest U SPORT as base energy. It's identical of U GELs in composition but delivered in a different way.

    UGels are tasty and packaged

UGels are tasty and packaged easy to consume on the go. It has a good light and not too runny consistency and it's combination of electrolyte mix means you don't have to take so many gels each hour compared to other gels I've taken in the past, (great for even my delicate stomach), and means less to carry during a long run. Works really well with the UDrinks powder too. Can't wait to try out more flavours!

    These Umara gels are just

These Umara gels are just so easy to intake throughout the run. Brought 13 of these on the Translantau, adding Ugel grap and Umara sport for a complete nutrition coverage for the full race. I like the taste and while i was getting more and more exhausted enjoyed drinking these during the run. I also like the shape of the Gel pack which makes it easy to store in the running jacket and pull out with two fingers while running.
